2010
   MODERN SHORT STORIES BY
NEW LIBERIAN WRITERS

Cotton Tree Press is looking for contemporary short stories by new and established Liberian writers. Please send your best work (3,000 - 7,000 words) for possible inclusion in an anthology. Your story must be set in present-day Liberia (rural or urban). Upon publication, authors of selected stories will receive a small prize of $50 and two copies of the published book. A percentage of the proceeds from sales of the anthology will be used to support literacy activities in Liberia. Deadline for submissions: March 1, 2010. Send to: anthology@cottontreepress.com.

SUBMISSION
GUIDELINES
HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR WORK TO CTP

At Cotton Tree Press we understand the constraints faced by writers in Africa. That's why we make it easy for you to submit your work to us.

You may send us a query first, or you may send a complete manuscript.

You may send your letter or manuscript by post to either of our contact addresses or you may send it by email to submissions@cottontreepress.com.

You do not have to include a self-addressed stamped envelope (SASE) with your submission in order to get a reply.

We will, however, not be able to return any items submitted. Please do not send us your originals or the only copy of your work.

What we do require:

  • Send us your own unpublished work - NOT the works of others
  • Include a short bio of yourself
  • Include a brief synopsis of the work
  • Tell us who your audience will be and how you plan to get your book to them

At this time we are most open to short stories, novels, and creative non-fiction from writers from Liberia and Sierra Leone.

We are also seeking titles for our Responsible Romance imprint. Set in contemporary times, Responsible Romance stories feature young adults, single or married, who either practice abstinence, remain faithful to their partners, or choose to practice safer sex.

Tip: Focus on just telling us a good story rather than on teaching the reader how not to get HIV or other STIs.

Please refer to the UNESCO guidelines for appropriate language regarding HIV and AIDS.
